"Is that a mirror in your pocket..."

"cos' I can sure see myself getting in your pants"

Graham Norton('s show) rules
and the line above -which I picked up during his show- is probably the best pick up line of 2008 let alone in the history of mankind.

I saw Liverpool winning from Newcastle with 5-1 in the Britisch Premier League yesterday, LVP is doing pretty good if you ask me

Some friends of mine have been talking about Dawson's Creek lately, you know the American soap with some fucked up situation teenagers in it. I recently noticed they're playing reruns of the series on tv.
I never quite liked the first seasons, I've had enough complicated love issues on my own - thank you -, I do like the later seasons where Boston's the city where the story continues, probably because I quite like Boston (alot) and probably because for now I 'recognize' myself the most in this part of the twisted adventure Dawson and his posse are in, the characters grew and 'matured'.

I like to think I've grown alot this year and matured a lot in some way. Ebert told me about a week ago, that this change within some of us is very clearly and he enjoys to see each and every one of us grow, becoming more than just some kid.

So here's to Elke for bringing a topic like Dawson's Creek to my mind on her blog.
Sadly enough Dawson's Creek is also known as the Sand Creek Massacre where in 186? Amercan Militia men under the command of Bill Dawson, killed about 150 old people, children and women of the native Cheyenne people.
that's FUBAR

Bought some English books few weeks ago, finished the first one - Saving Private Ryan - yesterday, loved it, just like the movie, kinda took my breath reading the final 2 chapters.
the book contains more shitlanguage than the movie so I'm down with it
-Band Of Brothers is up next, followed by The Sea poems. I love nautical inspired poetry

Rapping up 2008

Last days of 2008, I don't consider it being a big deal but it's always cool to re-evaluate the past year.
2008 was a pretty good year I reckon, for me at least, it didn't start out that good but through the months things kept getting better.
I think I've learnt the most this year of all my years in my 20 year excistence.
Not only in school, which did taught me some interesting stuff, I got to learn a lot about people, by just meeting them, Genet and Ieperfest also played a huge role in my 'learningproces' this year. Through rough times and hardships I think I learned pretty much the most.

Through all ups and downs, 2008 is currently rated #1 I guess. A few reasons which made 2008 such a good year:
- meeting some incredible people from all over
- getting to work with bands and music in general
- getting the oppurtunity through Genet records to go to endless shows and gigs all year round and meet even more great people
- being able to participate and work with/for the Ieperfest festival, where I pretty much learned way more in 3 days than I'd learn in weeks/months
- working at the Polé Polé festival always makes me happy
- great new records from cool bands, great shows on festivals, great roadtrips to the festivals etc
- amazing times in Amsterdam, Germany, London
These are just a few examples and in some way a thank you to the people who were involved with any of the actions listed above.

The end of the year does ask for a end of the year list, rapping up my musical favorites of 2008:

Top 10 records:
1. Have Heart - Songs To Scream At The Sun
2. Amenra - Mass IIII
3. Trash Talk - S/t
4. Killing The Dream - Fractures
5. Shipwreck AD - Abyss
6. The Black Heart Rebellion - Monologue
7. Embrace The End - Ley Lines
8. Reign Supreme - American Violence
9. Cold World - Dedicated To Babies Who Came With Feet First
10. Cruel Hand - Prying Eyes

The top five is pretty much the correct order the other ones I didn't really know where to put.
Records that where close to making it:
Kingdom - S/t
50 Lions - Down To Nothing - Split 7"
Days Of Betrayal - Decapitated For Research

Top 10(+3) live performances:
1. Betrayed - Ieperfest
2. Have Heart - Ieperfest, MOD Hasselt
3. 50 Lions - Frontline Ghent, Pressurefest
4. Amenra - Recordrelease Ghent, Ieperfest
5. The Black Heart Rebellion - Graphic Art School Ghent
6. Trash Talk - Ill Blood Fest Izegem, Pressurefest
7. Comeback Kid - Summerblast Trier
8. The Dillinger Escape Plan - Hof Ter Loo Antwerp
9. Fucked Up - Trix Antwerp
10.Suicide Silence - Baroeg Rotterdam, Groezrock
11.Baroness - Summerblast Trier, Melkweg Amsterdam
12.War From A Harlots Mouth - Maldegem
13.Negative Approach - Summerblast Trier, Hof Ter Loo Antwerp

The shows listed above were my favorites of 2008, not only because of the music, mostly the people involved, people I met, people I was with at the show, the drive to and from the show.. it all played a role

Best parties of this year were:
1. Student Kickoff Ghent - shitfaced Lucas (fuck yeah)
2. Jaspers fundraiser and Josefiens houseparty afterwards
3. Ghent festival (Genste Fieste) - Polé Polé festival
4. Ieperfest Afterparty
5. Holy Shit Party at Sioux

Best Tv-shows of 2008
1. Californication

No competition

As for 2009 I have no clue so far what's going to happen, I can make a guess though.
Get a job asap, move out hopefully around March in the best appartment I've seen to this date. Get over stuff. Taking pictures. Cooking. Add people to the 2009 shitlist. Mad parties. Crazy gigs. Awesome records. Off the hook hangouts. Being badass 24/7

" It's time to make your life worthwhile "

I tend to do weird impulsive things when I fuck up in school
I went to London this weekend.

after dropping out of college,
a new and interesting change of events I must say

I'm not getting into it for what and what not
don't come and whine I should continue, there are enough people doing that already, don't bother. what's done is done and I'm not taking it back.

London. yes London
Vegan food, common availability, awesomeness!
Kate Nash's Made of Bricks on pink vinyl, sweet!
Mouthpiece, some 7" I didn't know it excisted for 50p, even sweeter
Northern England accents, best ever
hanging out like a bunch of tourists, which we actually were so yes

I wanted to get some christmas presents but I ended up spending most of my money on records and vegan food. again

A big thank you and shout out to Alan and Kim who took us in for three nights and giving me the care I needed since I was ill. Thanks to them and Rat as well for showing us around, showing us the sights, good places to eat, we wouldn't have found some of them without you.
Thanks to Alan for showing me the Britisch Museum which kinda blew me away, a must see
An even bigger thank you to Bruno for taking me to London and putting up with me and my cranky-sickness behaviour for 3 days.

I've spent the night at Bruno's together with Your Fall from Brazil
check these guys out if you're into raw voiced good old hardcore, they're currently on tour with Locked In from Italy, last week of the tour so catch them if you have the chance

So I'm back home now,
some kid's dad I kno(e)w died this week of cancer, he was a good man he really was.
It's hard to comprehend people die and yet it's all too real
- right now I'm waiting for a ten-beaufort lecture made up by my parents to enlighten me of my own stupitity.

I hate everything all over again

listen to The Black Heart Rebellion and Cold World

my girl, my girl...

I saw Have Heart yesterday
it's been a while since a band's music made me feel the way I felt yesterday

"But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams,
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream,
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied,
so he opens his throat
to sing"

thank you Have Heart
thank you Pat Flynn

check out Cruel Hand's Prying Eyes

pure fucking evil
