.on that bird in the cage

this may sound familiar, if you talked to me in the last few weeks I probably mentioned already how good 'Songs To Scream At The Sun' by Have Heart is.

this album... I don't see any downsides, I've been listening to this album a lot in the past few weeks, maybe too much, and it doesn't fail me in any matter

I love everything about it from the actual musical part to the artwork, looking at the cover photo, which I consider one of the best I've ever seen, just the simplicity of it all
I'm not really the guy that is able to review an album musicwise because I know shit about mixing mastering or whatever else reviewers look/listen at while giving it a spin. In my modest opinion, Songs To Scream At The Sun is in a way better than The Things We Carry, musically they are different but it's still Have Heart, lyricwise, it's defenetly better, not that I think TTWC's lyrics were bad, not at all, but the band grew, and writing songs like this about things that are so personal and so narrow to ones heart, I can only have the deepest respect.

This album has been functioning as my spine for the past few weeks, I've learned a lot about life and myself lately and these songs only back it up. Riding my bike from home to Ghent and vice versa, gives you some time to listen, and I listened a lot in the first few days, afterwards I was riding my bike singing, hearing the lyrics over and over, thinking about how close some of them are related to my own life... Flynn got me even writing for myself, not that it won't get even close to what he has achieved in writing his songs, but writing stuff down kinda helped me letting it all out in a different way, a way I hadn't tried before.

"I'd rather learn from one bird how to sing
than teach ten thousands stars how to dance..."

Pat Flynn, don't ever stop writing

.no arms can hold, no home can warm

.no compass can guide me home
for i'm the magnetical declination that disrupts the needle of pointing homeward
for i'm the sailor who shipwrecked in an endless storm of emotions, home becomes an empty word
for i can grow hopeless, or rebuild my future
for the future i can call home

deep down I wished I didn't need to write things like this...

.le fils des faux

life has a way of screwing us all over, yet another lesson learned

People died in the past few weeks, and some got seriously injured...
most of them I didn't knew in person or not quite so good, others were and are more familiar, life screws us over, all of us, you know those 'wrong place wrong time' situations.
Then again, thousands of people die everyday, and no one seems to care because we don't know about it, out of sight, out of mind. I can't blame anyone, everybody including me has this, it would be rather sad if we would all live in grief for the thousands of deaths of everyday.

Cherish these days of your youth and the rest of your life, dont be spending to much time doing the complete opposite or just wasting some of your most valueble days.

In other events,
I quite stink at remembering things which happend shortby, by now I do remember that I planned on going to the Blacklisted and RTTM gig in Antwerp 2 weeks ago... I was supposed to meet a good friend there but she didn't show up so that actually bummed my whole day, the gig was cool nonetheless, but expected some more of the gig overall.

As far as I remember I have no fucking clue what I did during that week, I guess finishing up my room, which is finished, of which I have no photos yet because I'm too lazy to take them and put them on..

Last weekend, there was Kozzmosh, a pretty cool fest in Kortemark - shithole - Belgium, bands were pretty cool, people were low in numbers which suprised me, because, Lenght Of Time and No Turning Back were headlining, I don't think the organizers were able to cover their expenses so that kinda sucked.
Afterwards on the way home we arranged to get a free entrance at Bruges Thoprock, the bandplaying part was already over, so we crashed in during the afterparty, which was off the freaking hook!, too bad it didn't last that long, saw friends, met new people, went crazy on some crunk tunes, shit was tight.

Monday, there was the Summer Slaughter tour hitting Belgium, Aarschot.
Worked the bar for the entire night, saw all bands play, Abigail Williams defenetly drew my attention, not only due to the girl who was playing the keys, this band delivered a really tight set which suprised me, because on cd I'm not really their biggest fan, but live they really bring it. Suicide Silence was quite sick as well but short though, As Blood Runs Black, played kind off sloppy if you ask me, but awesome show nonetheless. Hung out before-during-after the gig, ate auntie Ritas vegan food, which was awesome²²²², heard crazy tourstories of AW, none will be released here, what happens on tour stays on tour..

From the past weeks I do remember some more, got myself registered into college again, communicationsmanagement it is for this year, I hope it works out better than last year, sure enough payed enough for it to make it work.. hopefully
have the worst ID picture ever for my students card, not even the biggest potsmoker could compete with it, mark my words.

Wednesday, yes! wednesday, Genet bbq/hangout/party
good times, vegan bbq party at my house, laughter, jokes, stories, fun indeed.

Thursday, I was about to write I totally forgot what I did, just came up to me; Introduction day at college, you know, first day, kinda awkward, met a girl I knew since kindergarden or so, pretty cool, met some people together, skipped some introduction sessions because I know what their about from last year, hung out in Ghent with Micha, sitting in the tribunes for the flower parade that was today haha
Saw Yoni passing by, texting him what he was doing, turns out he's doing the same like me, only he is in a different group, but never the less, looks like this will be pretty cool, got my books, which turned out cheaper than I thought.

Friday, Micha's gig, arriving early to help out, the street is packed with (drunk) high school-college kids, I can handle drunk people, but this was just plain stupid.
the show was pretty cool, he was able to cover all expenses so thats cool as well.
Days Of Betrayal played, last time I saw them was... a gazillion years ago, meanwhile they recorded a full cd, got signed to Shiver records and are releasing their debut in october, they played all new songs, which were pretty wild, they're isn't really a band I can compare this band with, which is a good thing, more about DOB and their release in a future post.
hung out afterwards with friends, haha there was a drunk coke dealer hanging around as well who stole a girls wallet, cops showed up, the dude was gone, had a laugh, got back inside bla bla
we ended up hitting up one of the 43569 pita joints there are in Ghent, eating some falafal, heading over to Micha's place together with Eddy!, we were racing downhill on the empty streets on a rolling chair we found next to the street, it was a blast(EDDY RULES)
slept together with Eddy on an unfolded couch bed thing, with I think a curtain as bedsheet, cold as hell, we took some kinky picturs which should be censored haha

Saturday, woke up, breakfast in ghent, hanging out, heading home, hating the fact of being at home while my home should be somewhere else if you ask me...
Got a call late that night, parents are in Turkey, Dad's in the hospital, great

Today, parents got home, dad might need an operation, great²
life...
screwing us over...
anytime..
anywhere...
kinda figured it out by now

Tomorrow, first day of school, back in Ghent, wednesday, Student kick off party
friday, the LIAR revival, Saturday, seeing the girl I was supposed to meet at Blacklisted again, hoping that nothing else comes up that might screw up the whole deal, Trash Talk's playing + Liar, should be a hell of weekend again
